Location
Affi:
Affi is the ideal starting point for exploring the region, as it is in close proximity to the A22 highway and is therefore easily accessible. The town itself may be small, but it has a beautiful old town and a modern shopping center, making it a convenient port of call for travelers. From Affi, you have access to the rolling hills of the surrounding area and the nearby wineries that produce the famous Valpolicella wine.
The Valpolicella wine region:
The Valpolicella area stretches between Affi and Verona and is known for its first-class wines, particularly Amarone. The hilly vineyards not only offer breathtaking views, but also the opportunity to taste and buy wines in the numerous wine cellars (cantine). In the towns of Fumane, Marano and Negrar, which are part of the Valpolicella region, visitors will find historic wineries and can immerse themselves in the tradition of winegrowing.
The Adige Valley:
The Adige, the second longest river in Italy, runs through the valley between Lake Garda and Verona. Here you will find fertile soils where not only wine but also olives and fruit are grown. There are cycle paths and hiking trails along the river, which are ideal for an excursion into nature and offer wonderful views of the surrounding hills.
Bardolino and Lazise on Lake Garda:
Along the east coast of Lake Garda lie some of the most beautiful towns, including Bardolino and Lazise. These towns are known for their romantic old towns, charming lakeside promenades and excellent restaurants. Bardolino, which is just a few kilometers from Affi, is particularly famous for its wine, the Bardolino DOC, and hosts the Bardolino Wine Festival every year. Lazise is a medieval town with a well-preserved fortress wall and a lively weekly market that is a popular meeting place for locals and tourists.
Verona:
The picturesque city of Verona is about 20 kilometers from Affi and can be reached in less than half an hour by car. Verona is a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its Roman ruins, such as the Arena of Verona, and its role as the setting for Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". In addition to its historical sights, Verona also offers a rich cultural life with theaters, concerts and festivals taking place throughout the year.
