Location: The city of Arezzo is rich in restaurants and trattorias where you can taste the typical dishes of the Aretine and Tuscan tradition, such as ribollita, tortelli, crostini neri, pici, Florentine steak, venison and game, seasoned with excellent extra virgin olive oil and accompanied by a good wine selected from the many produced in Tuscany.
The ancient city of Cortona, whose origins date back to 900 BC, is within easy reach 30 km further south. ("Mother of Troy and Grandmother of Rome"), in the splendid Val di Chiana, where you can admire the Etruscan tombs of Melone del Sodo and the Etruscan Museum.
To the north lies the splendid Casentino valley, rich in Romanesque churches and imposing castles, surrounded by oak and chestnut woods.
In this valley, the towns of Stia, Pratovecchio and Bibbiena are well worth a visit, in search of quiet monasteries such as the hermitage of Camaldoli, set in centuries-old fir woods, and the sanctuary of La Verna, where Saint Francis lived in the last years of his life. Another must-see is Poppi, a beautiful village that is rightly considered one of the most beautiful in Italy, with its loggias and the imposing, perfectly preserved medieval castle of the Conti Guidi.
Also to the north is Caprese Michelangelo, home to the Michelangelo Buonarroti Birthplace Museum and Michelangelo Michelangelo Library, where Michelangelo Buonarroti, Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet, was born in 1475. He was a leading figure of the Renaissance and has already been recognized as one of the greatest artists of all time.
