Location: The municipality of Schenna extends over an area of more than 48 km² northeast of the city of Merano in the Burgraviate. The settlement areas occupy the low mountain slopes that accompany the lower Passeier valley until it merges with the Etsch valley in the Merano basin on the east side or on the orographically left side of the Passer river. The main village of Schenna lies at an altitude of 570m in the southwest of the municipal area directly above the Meran district of Obermais and opposite Dorf Tirol. Slightly inland from the valley is the village of Verdins (840m); in the far north is the scattered settlement of Tall at altitudes ranging from 850 to almost 1600m. To the east, the area is overlooked by peaks of the Sarntal Alps, among which the most famous are the Hirzer (2781m), the Verdinser Plattenspitze (2680m) and the Ifinger (2581m).
