Location: San Candido, market town and vacation destination, stretches from the adventure pool on the valley floor to the peaks in the Three Peaks Nature Park.
In the very east of South Tyrol, in the uppermost Hochpustertal, lies the market town of San Candido at the foot of the mighty Haunold Group in the Dolomites. Today's municipality has developed from a Celtic settlement that existed here even before the birth of Christ, and was later known for its healing wild baths. Today it stretches from the cozy village center with its stores and small cafes to Vierschach, where the lifts to the Helm mountain start, and Winnebach on the border with the Austrian East Tyrol.
During a walk through the pedestrian zone in the village center you will be accompanied by the tower of the collegiate church. It is closely interwoven with the long history of the village and is considered one of the most important Romanesque sacred buildings in the Eastern Alps. The associated Abbey Museum invites you to an interesting tour with magnificent treasures. In between there are always bigger events like the Innichner Marktlfest or the snow sculpture festival. However, the village presents itself in a particularly enchanting way at Christmas time, when the rural "Dolomiten Weihnacht" (Dolomites Christmas) in the alleys of San Candido with local handicrafts and traditional specialties offers a quieter alternative to the five large Christmas markets in South Tyrol.
San Candido is already enchanting to look at from the outside, whether from the state road that runs right through the Puster Valley or from the hike through the Silvestro Valley between Dobbiaco and San Candido. In San Candido village the lifts start up to the Haunold and in Versciaco to the Monte Elmo, where in the Three Peaks Nature Park excursion destinations such as Olperl's Adventure Park and Giant Haunold's Kingdom are located. In winter, these lifts will take you to the 3 Peaks Dolomites ski region, which unites five ski mountains between San Candido and Val Comelico (source: https://www.suedtirolerland.it/de/suedtirol/pustertal/innichen/).
