Location: Ziano di Fiemme (in Trentino dialect: Suan, German obsolete: Zanonberg) is an Italian municipality (comune) with 1770 inhabitants in the province of Trento, region Trentino-Alto Adige. It administratively belongs to the valley community Comunità territoriale della Val di Fiemme and historically to the valley community Fleims.
The municipality is located about 38 kilometers northeast of Trento in the upper Val di Fiemme on the Avisio River in the Val di Fiemme Alps at an altitude of 953 meters above sea level. South of Ziano di Fiemme lies the Lagorai range, while to the north extend the southern foothills of the Latemar group. The municipal territory also includes fractions Bosin, Roda, Zanolin and Zanon.
The Cauriol refuge belongs to the municipality of Ziano and is located in the Sadole valley at an altitude of 1600 meters. Located in the middle of the valley, the refuge takes its name from Mount Cauriol, a peak of the Lagorai range that was the scene of fierce battles between Italian and Habsburg troops during the First World War. The summit of Cauriol was briefly captured by the Italians in 1916.
For mountaineers and hikers there is an interesting and easy via ferrata to the top of Punta Polse (1450 m), from where you can enjoy a beautiful panorama.
