Location: Romantic hill town in northern Valtenesi

From here, narrow roads lead to the beautiful bays around Porto San Felice, Porto Portese and the headland of San Fermo. Numerous campsites have settled on the gravel beaches, some of which are very long. In front of the headland of San Fermo lies the beautifully overgrown Isola del Garda, the largest island of Lake Garda.
From Portese - a small village belonging to the municipality - you have a beautiful view of the neighboring town of Salò, which nestles in the bay of the same name. The center of Portese has some nice places to eat.

The small village in the middle of the picturesque moraine hills of the Valtenesis is said to owe its somewhat difficult name to the Roman "Popinius". In the course of Romanization "Popinius" became "Popiniacus" and this in turn became Puegnago in the course of time.
Like the history of the entire Valtenesis, that of Puegnago is also marked by fierce battles, wars and brutal assaults. And so, on the hill of this small village, a mighty fortress towers. Except for a well-preserved tower, it has been left to decay. The inhabitants of Puegnago live, besides food production, mainly from stone quarrying, textile and wood processing, and more and more also from tourism.
