Location: Innervillgraten is located at the end of the valley of the same name and extends to the hamlet of Kalkstein, which lies at 1,640 m above sea level - a place of pilgrimage that has also been turned into a film set. Innervillgraten was first mentioned in 788 AD as "Alpe Valgrata". To this day, the village has been able to preserve its original character - here, relaxation away from the hustle and bustle and mass tourism is a priority. A family atmosphere characterises the accommodation in this village.
An extensive network of paths crosses the untouched nature and brings you to the surrounding alpine pastures, as well as the highest peaks - magnificent views of the mountains of East and South Tyrol included. Cross-border trails also start here, which were once used for trade and are now mainly an attraction for hikers. One of these trails leads, for example, to the Gsiesertal valley in South Tyrol.
Others: The pilgrimage church Maria Schnee, built in 1660, is worth a visit in any weather.
Kalkstein, a hamlet of Innervillgraten, is about 4 km from the village of Innervillgraten. The Wallfartskirche Maria Schnee was consecrated in 1875. The exterior is, apart from a surrounding plinth, without any particular structure. The sacristy is built into the east side. The interior of the neo-Gothic building shows simple star-ribbed vaulting with a pointed choir arch.
The village of Kalkstein is also known as the location of the film "Gewitter im Mai" by Ganghofer.
