Location: Vermiglio, the highest village on the road that leads from Trento to the Tonale Pass (1,260 m a.s.l.), consists of four hamlets that form a single coherent settlement: Cortina, Fraviano, Pizzano and Borgonuovo.
On the state road that leads to the Tonale Pass, between the village of Vermiglio and the top of the pass, there is the Forte Strino fortress, which has recently been restored to its former glory. This fortress is an important witness of the so-called "White War" (Guerra Bianca), by which is meant the 1st World War, which claimed the most victims here in the winter months. The Museum of the White War, which can be found in Vermiglio, is also worth seeing and educational.
The ski lifts in the Tonale ski area are open winter and summer and offer skiing pleasure from autumn to spring. Modern lifts take you up to the Presena Glacier, which also has modern snowmaking equipment if needed. At Stavel and Velon there are also beautiful cross-country ski trails in winter.
In summer Vermiglio is also an ideal starting point for hikes to the Presanella group and to the various alpine huts in the Adamello area.
