Location: Fagagna rises on a hill northwest of Udine, from which there is a beautiful view over the surrounding hills and plain. The present ruins of the castle are located in a place that was already inhabited in Roman times, although the first official records date back to the patriarchal period (983 AD). Of the former fortifications, only a few elements remain, including the ruined city wall, the city gate, the tower of the castle (converted into a bell tower) with clock, the ruins of the main tower, a 14th century house and the small church of San Michele Arcangelo, which served as a former oratory for the castle inhabitants and was already present in 1386. Among the public buildings, the Municipal House stands out, with a beautiful loggia on the lower floor, dating from the Rinascimento period.
Not far from the modern residential area, in the natural oasis of the Quadris, the reintroduction of the white stork has begun. Along the road that leads from Fagagna to Colloredo di Montalbano, one often encounters pairs of storks that have built their nests on roofs or street lamps. Ciase Cocél offers a real picture of peasant life in the previous century. It is not a simple folklore museum, but offers a real insight into the former life in the countryside.
