Equipment: The villa was built by the Baumann family from Zurich, owner of the Gavirate spinning mill, built in 1879. It was an industry with trade in cocoons and silk yarns, employing over 150 workers, also from far away. The family also owned the spinning mills of Comerio, Bodio, Intra. The silks produced were processed in the silk factory of Andreae di Besozzo, known as fabbricone because of the extraordinary size of the building. In the early 1960s, the Baumann building caught fire. The plans of the house were saved and the destroyed part was rebuilt just like the previous one.The Baumanns were also owners of Cascina Laghetti in Cocquio-Trevisago just below the new provincial highway on the border with Gavirate. The Baumanns also fled during World War II apparently for racial reasons. It is a prestigious lakeside villa built between 1890 and 1892 by the Baumann barons by the famous architect Michele Cairati, to whose genius we owe some of the best villas of the time that embellished Lombardy.
Others: The villa is located in Gavirate (VA), in the northeast of Lombardy, not far from the border with Switzerland and Lake Maggiore.
